RECENT DISSERTATIONS MAKE IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THEIR RESPECTIVE FIELDS OF KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION
Verna Johnson Portis, Ed.D., The Effects of School Organizational Structures on Students' Academics, Motivation, and Attendance in Selected Urban Texas Middle Schools (May 2009), 81pp. This dissertation explores the problems encountered by adolescents in transition to Middle School and what school construct is best suited for the 10-14 age group. Students were selected from nine elementary schools and three middle schools in the Corpus Christi Independent School District and were paired according to the feeder schools in the same attendance zones as the elementary schools. The problem of interest was determining whether a relationship exists between departmentalized school constructs and academic failure of some middle school students.
Larry James Thornton, DBA, Essential Guidelines for Managing Nonprofit Organizations (June 2009), 147pp. This dissertation reviews the problems that nonprofit organizations face on a daily basis. By selecting a successful nonprofit business model along with management's expertise, this provides the help and guidance needed to manage nonprofit organizations more efficiently.
The problems that nonprofit organizations encounter are not isolated. In this dissertation, these issues are identified through research verifications which are common to start-up organizations and existing organizations that have been in business for several years. The core question in each chapter is: What should all managers and trustees of all non-profit organizations and associations know in order to be successful in moving their organizations forward?
Edugie Mobolade Joan Lawal Osula, DPA, Organizational Behaviour in Nigerian Public Enterprises (1994/2009), 231pp. This dissertation highlights the contemporary spectrum of organizational behavior in the environment of government control. Chapter Two deals with the environment of administration as applicable to public enterprises, the concept of administrative power, its dynamics and the decision-making process and the theoretical and empirical analyses of the environment with reference to contemporary theorists who have shaped ideas on this subject.
Chapter Three provides the background information on the central issue of the project: organizational behavior with a thorough overview of the universalistic concepts. These concepts are reviewed in the light of the Nigerian situation and its applicability to the Nigerian context, insofar as it affects productivity of the national economy. It also examines the structure of organizations, their funtional approaches, the administrative behavior and the problem of time in so far as it affects productivity.
This dissertation is uniquely important because it proceeds to interrelate classic conceptual issues in organizational behavior in the management of government business and to find alternative solutions to the mismanagement of the enterprises over which government has total or partial control.
